can I confess?

I figure I can here. It’s my place right?

I’m tired.

I’m so tired.

I’m tired of this crowded market of amazing photographers. Utah has so many incredible photographers, but from a business standpoint it’s a little exhausting.

If you want me to take your pictures, I’ll be happy to. But I’m no businesswoman. And I’m sure not a competitor. I just really love taking pictures.

and I really just want to take pictures that I love. And explore things that I can do with my camera.

So i’m announcing a resolution today. I’ve always done this, but I’m going to try to be brave and do it more — from now on I post what I like. Not just posting things that make me look cool as a photographer. Not just things that make me look like you might want to hire me or something.

Things like this –

things that are straight out of the camera and virgin and untouched in photoshop. Naked, if you will.

That’s my confession for today.

Now off to go try to wrangle a kid and clear one little spot where I can sit in this house.

ETA – I ran upstairs and told David of my new resolution and he looked at me and I realized that I go through this exact process about every 6 months. Maybe it’s like a snake shedding its skin…

March 5, 2010 - 11:58 am mick - ... and this is why I love you ... i could have written this post myself. i want to make real images of life and i want them to be as technically perfect as possible sooc -- photoshop is a bore. most importantly, i want my images to make my heart sing. if in the process, they make another's heart sing, then i am the photographer for them. {{p.s. ~ your images make my heart sing. :)}}

March 5, 2010 - 1:41 pm Charlaine - me too. but I'm surprised a little by your post because you always seem to me like you already do that. Not that you post anything but fabulous photos, just they always seem to be from your heart. You're kinda my inspiration in that :) Keep on trucking lady! (lol, that was hokey, at least I didn't put "keep on keepin on" that was my first choice. Oops! )

March 5, 2010 - 2:35 pm jefra starr linn - thank you. you guys are super nice. charlaine - just updated the post to include that I realized I go through this exact process every six months or sooner. and every time I feel like it's a new thing for me.

March 5, 2010 - 5:27 pm Daniel - You're doing great, Jefra - I always appreciate your originality and creativity. That might not be always appreciated in the commercial market of photo buyers, but I think you have the respect and admiration from many of your peers, myself included. Business is business. It's not easy to translate your passion and creativity into a working profession. But at least you're out there and giving it what you have to give. I look forward to seeing more of the type of photos you want to put up for you. It's the best kind :)

March 5, 2010 - 6:23 pm toni - one brilliant solution: move to nc. come be my photographer.

March 6, 2010 - 11:11 am Stephen and Debbie Walter - This is your thing... Do what YOU want, even if it means shedding your skin every 6 months! :)

March 6, 2010 - 3:18 pm Janet - Amen sister, I sick of all the photoshop and lets all do what everyone is doing. Digital is great but at the same time I feel sad that a form of art is being lost. Just follow your heart and all will be good in your little universe.

March 6, 2010 - 10:35 pm morgaine - jefra, i love you. that's all.

June 16, 2010 - 9:19 am Loren - yep thats me at the back saying " hey, me too ! me too !"
